Our commitment

Palo Alto Bookkeeping wants this website usable by everyone, including
visitors using a screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or
browser zoom. The site is built to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the
widely-used standard for web accessibility.

What’s built in

  • Color contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text.
  • Semantic HTML — one <h1> per page, no skipped heading levels, ARIA
    landmarks on the header, navigation, main content, and footer.
  • A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, so you can see
    where keyboard focus is at all times.
  • Descriptive alt text on every content image; decorative images are marked
    so screen readers skip them.
  • Every form field has a visible, associated label; required fields are
    marked in plain text, and errors are described in plain language and
    linked to the field they belong to.
  • The site works at 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling.
  • Animations respect your system’s reduced-motion setting, and nothing
    autoplays.
  • A “skip to content” link as the first focusable element on every page.

What’s still in progress

This site has been built to the standard above, but it has not yet been
through an independent third-party accessibility audit. I’m still working
through a verification pass (automated scanning, a full keyboard-only
walkthrough, and manual zoom testing) rather than claiming a certification
that hasn’t happened. If you find something that doesn’t work the way it
should, I want to know — see below.

Embedded third-party content (currently, the Calendly scheduling
widget) is built and maintained by that provider, not by me, and may not
fully match the standard above. I choose providers that take accessibility
seriously, but I can’t independently guarantee a third party’s tool the
way I can this site’s own pages.
